New Alanis Morissette Video: Love It or Smash it

New Alanis Morissette Video: Love It or Smash itAlanis Morissette quietly released the video for her new single "Not As We," a ballad from her amazing yet underrated album "Flavors of Entanglement."
Directed by James Whitaker, the video shows simple and clean stills from Alanis performing the song interspersed with bleak images of a pensive Alanis drinking coffee, reading a book, laying on the beach, taking a bath and looking out of the window. This song might bore some of you to no end while others might be touched by Morisette's emotive delivery. I'm leaning towards the latter depending on what mood I'm in. It's pretty perfect for a rainday. (Click here to get Alanis latest CD on Amazon.com for only $5.99. That's a steal.)

"The X Factor": Alanis Morissette, R. Kelly and Avril Lavigne

"The X Factor": Alanis Morissette, R. Kelly and Avril Lavigne duet with the finalists (CBS) Wooster, Ohio. Santa Cruz, Calf. Sunrise, Fla. Three such simple places. Three such simple places that, one day, might have a bronze statue in their town squares commemorating the first ever American winner of "The X Factor."
Wooster's Josh Krajcik, Santa Cruz' Chris Rene and Sunrise's Melanie Amaro, should they succeed here, would get a $5 million contract and untold immortality. All they had to do in last night finals was sing a couple of songs well. Which wasn't as easy as it sounded. In fact, it ended up sounding not so easy at all. Krajcik began uncertainly, with a peculiar gray wood as his backdrop.

What was this eerie place? Tim Burton's back garden? What was this eerie song? Why was Krajcik halting? Oh, Lordy, he had to do double duty as a presenter. For there he was, breaking his song to introduce Alanis Morissette. They then dueted her hit "Uninvited." By: Chris Matyszczyk

Josh Krajcik: He performed Alanis Morissette's aching ballad 'Uninvited,' backed by a simple piano and Morissette herself. The escalating tempo coupled with Krajcik's husky pipes competing against Morissette's vibrato muddled the song.
‘X Factor’ Recap: Top 3 Sing for Final Time, Perform With Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil Robots. Each of the Top 3 performed two songs on tonight’s penultimate episode of ‘X Factor.’ The first song was a duet with a famous star, and the second song featured each member of the final trio on their own. The latter was their $5 million song, if you will, since a recording contract of that size is at stake.

The final trio also performed Michael Jackson‘s ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ with the robots from the Cirque du Soleil show featuring the King of Pop’s music. They were stomping, well-choreographed robots with dollar signs on their chests. The trio sang at the top of the stage about a minute in. It was cool and, well, different. Melanie Amaro: The final female performed ‘Fly’ with R. Kelly, but she didn’t exactly soar until they began the duet portion of the song. They bounced off one another deftly, but R. upstaged Mel a little bit. It was the first time he’s ever performed the song as a duet. She offered up Beyonce‘s ‘Listen’ for her second song and it was a flawless rebound.
Josh Krajcik: He performed Alanis Morissette‘s aching ballad ‘Uninvited,’ backed by a simple piano and Morissette herself. The escalating tempo coupled with Krajcik’s husky pipes competing against Morissette’s vibrato muddled the song. Morissette called him “a very soulful man.” His second song was a rock ‘n’ roll cover of Etta James’ soulful torch song ‘At Last.’ He made the song his own and looked every inch a rock star. Chris Rene: He was joined by pop punk princess Avril Lavigne and it felt like she was featuring him on one of her songs.

It was a fun, entertaining combo that felt like Rene enhanced a hit song that already exists. While the song is Lavigne’s biggest smash, it still felt new and fresh with the added element of Rene. He performed his original ‘Young Homie’ as his second song, and it was brilliant as a performance and in its overall execution.

Alanis Morissette says struggles with food

Friday Nov. 25, 2011 2:14 PM ET Canadian singer Alanis Morissette has revealed in a new blog post she has had troubles with her body image, suggesting she once struggled with an eating disorder. Writing for the website iVillage.com, Morissette describes having had trouble with food and weight, in a post entitled "My Relationship with Food and Fat."

"Not much upsets me quite like someone making a declarative and derogatory comment about someone's weight when they themselves have never struggled with an eating disorder," the Ottawa-born native begins. She goes on to talk about the pressure that discourages fat and obesity, and the pressure she herself has felt to remain thin.
"I remember being at my most thin one day, feeling like I could barely drag my lethargic body around, only to be met with the most compliments I had ever received," she says. The singer-songwriter adds cryptically: "…my fraught relationship with food and fat has always been a cloaked invitation into a more profound kindness to myself (one I have so often ignored).

Being kind toward my fragility in the face of a monolithic message of perfectionism and intolerance has not been an easy path." The post isn't clear about whether Morissette has actually ever been treated for an eating disorder or when in her life she experienced these issues. Morissette is perhaps best known for the 1995 blockbuster pop-alternative album "Jagged Little Pill," which remains the highest-selling debut album worldwide.

She has gone to sell more than 60 million albums worldwide and has won seven Grammy Awards and 12 Juno Awards. Her last record, 2008's "Flavors of Entanglement," hit No. 3 on the Canadian album chart. The singer, who was once engaged to actor Ryan Reynolds, is married to musician Mario "Souleye" Treadway. They have a baby son named Ever Imre.

Alanis Morissette Party All Night With Maya Rudolph Yay! We love us some Alanis Morissette! She really is a very funny actress. Remember when she played God?! Brilliant!
NBC has announced that Up All Night will be doing a very special episode come the new year in which Maya Rudolph's character Ava returns to her rocking 90's roots. Alanis will guest star on the episode "as a hip-hop legend from Ava’s ’90s band, Sound LLC." You know what that means! Break out the UFO pants! Isn't it ironic how this 90s musical superstar is cameoing on the show has a fictional 90s musical superstar? Huh! It's like rain on your wedding day, for sure!
